Weckerlin Bergerette - Jeunes Fillettes

Bergerette’s Jeunes Fillettes is a song imploring young women not to waste their youth. The narrator explains that like the Voilet in the field, so too will their youth slowly shrivel.

I had the opportunity to sing this piece for my end of 2nd-year recital in 2022 accompanied by the wonderful Hilary Jones. English translations to the lyrics and the video of my performance are down below!

Young little girls,

(Waste not your time // seize the moment)

the violet is picked in spring

(Tra la la la la)

(la ri lon lan la)

This little flower stays but a short while,

as does infatuation.

Young little girls,

(Waste not your time // seize the moment)

the violet is picked in spring

(Tra la la la la)

(la ri lon lan la)

At this ripe age,

take up a friend,

If he is fickle,

return to him the favor.

Young little girls,

(Waste not your time // seize the moment)

the violet is picked in spring

(Tra la la la la)

(la ri lon lan la)
